The search is on for regional innovators

In today’s global economy, it is vital to recognise individuals and companies with the foresight to adapt to shifting markets by using their innovative ideas.

For this reason, Yorkshire Forward, together with a number of other leading organisations, has launched its ‘Innovator/08’ awards, which aim to celebrate the region’s ambassadors for innovation.

The awards are designed to showcase the very best of the region’s innovators, giving entrants the opportunity to raise their profile with clients and potential new customers, and demonstrate their commitment to being a leader in their field.

The ‘Innovator/08’ awards are open to any company or individual in Yorkshire and Humber who has developed, either alone or in partnership, new ideas, products, technologies or ways of working in order to improve their business.  University departments and facilities that are involved with industrial collaborations are also invited to enter.

There are eight awards categories open for entry and vary from recognising innovative ideas, innovative company leaders and innovative collaborations between businesses and universities.

Jim Farmery, head of innovation at Yorkshire Forward explains: “Historically our region has taken something of an economic hammering as a result of changes in the markets of a number of our traditional industries.

“The flip side of this is that, today, companies in Yorkshire and Humber are very aware of the need to keep up with changing demands and are willing to embrace new ideas in order to keep them ahead of the game.

“There are some really great examples of companies developing new ideas technologies and ways of working in the region, and these awards are designed to celebrate their success.

“We also want to use the awards to raise awareness of the benefits of innovation and the facilities on offer in the region that can help companies integrate new ideas and technologies for the benefit of their business.”

The award categories are:

Innovator/08 will culminate in a prestigious awards ceremony at Leeds Town Hall on 5 March 2008. The closing date for applications is 5 February 2008.
