Doncaster company secures its largest contract

CBDA Doncaster firm has secured a £26 million contract – the largest materials handling contract in the firm’s 34-year history.

Clyde Bergemman Doncaster (CBD), in partnership with colleagues in Australia, won the contract to provide a state-of-the-art ash handling solution and a high concentration slurry discharge system for the Eraring Energy coal fired power station located near Sydney, New South Wales. The project will run until 2010.

The deal coincides with CBD moving into new offices at Lakeside, Doncaster, following the appointment of five new employees in the last 12 months. Further job opportunities are expected as the company continues to increase its activities and presence in the global market.

CBD clinched the deal after receiving support from South Yorkshire International Trade Centre (SYITC) via the Yorkshire Forward-funded Targeted Export Support Scheme (TESS).

The support helped enable CBD to develop a route into the power generation market in Australia by attending events in the country and by producing promotional material.

CBD is part of the Clyde Bergemann Power Group (CBPG) and is regarded as the group’s materials handling centre of excellence in the UK.

Craig Buckley, sales manager for CBD, said: “This is a massive contract for the company and the group. It will enable us to reach the next level of development as the organisation continues to grow and expand.

“The future with Clyde Bergemann Doncaster looks very secure and we are all confident that the business will continue to evolve and stay one step ahead of our global competition.

“We believe we captured Eraring Energy’s attention and confidence from the outset, with our ability to react and offer multiple options to meet their needs. This was supported by assistance from SYITC and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) who have been extremely helpful in acquiring this deal.

“Any support in funding to expand our international business is always welcome as breaking into a new market abroad is a difficult procedure to undertake.”

CBD has extensive overseas operation. The company recently secured new sales of £11.7m in Spain, £8.3m in Italy and is also confident of a potential order worth £10m in Russia.

The Doncaster firm is also working with UKTI's High Growth Market Specialists pursuing an opportunity in Vietnam and has engaged with opportunities in Turkey, the Middle East, India and South Africa.
